Thank you for supporting subcircle by purchasing Time & Tide’s Fog Cutter!

Subcircle’s mission is to generate greater access to the performing arts in Southern Maine and support performance-based artists in their creation of new and experimental art works.

Our mission is uniquely supported by each of our three programmatic branches:

Subcircle Presents - We generate greater access to the performing arts in Southern Maine by presenting the work of renowned artists who challenge where and how performing art can be experienced; as well as the development of new work by Maine-based choreographers through our annual works-in-progress showcase, dOLLOP.

Subcircle Residency - We promote the creation of new and experimental performance by offering 10-day artist residencies to 15+ artists annually on a farm in Biddeford. Since 2019, we have awarded residencies to 55 artists.

Subcircle Creates - We enhance access to performing arts in Southern Maine by producing our own dance works annually. Often site-specific, the work creates opportunities for participants to witness dance in non-traditional performance spaces. Last year, we received our first Maine-based commission from the Ogunquit Museum of American Art and in July of 2023 performed an evening length site-responsive dance, “Till the Tide”, at the museum.
