Subcircle Residency prioritizes supporting performing artists (dance/theater/performance art/interdisciplinary) in the beginning or early stages of developing new works, but welcomes artists of any kind to apply. Currently applications are by invitation but we do welcome inquiries so we can put you on our radar. We are located in Biddeford, Maine, just 15 miles south of Portland, 2 miles from beautiful Fortunes Rocks Beach, and a short drive to downtown Biddeford which features some of Maine’s best coffee shops, restaurants, breweries, and distilleries.
Residency Offerings
Free residency
10 day residencies providing artists with full use of 4 bedroom house, and studio/barn. House will be stocked with staple items in kitchen, linens and paper products plus one dinner with directors will be provided. Artists responsible for their own travel and food.
Partially Subsidized residency
Cost $1000 for up to 6 people. Ten day residency - use of 4 bedroom house, and studio/barn. House will be stocked with staple items in kitchen, linens and paper products. Financial aid may be available.
Parent/family residency (subject to funding in 2024)
7 or 10 day residency to support a parent artist. Artist is welcome to bring their children along with a caregiver/partner. 4 bedroom house is suited for a family to come and enjoy nearby beaches and parks while the artist works. Chosen artist is also welcome to come without family.
Commuter residency
For artists who don’t need housing - we offer a commuter residency. Commuter residencies can be awarded (free) or paid. Contact us for details.
