Announcing our 2024 Residency Season

Subcircle is thrilled to announce residencies for our 2024 season!

Fully Funded  residencies have been awarded to: AZ Espinoza (Philadelphia), and Jenn Kidwell (NY). Our two Pew Fellow residencies are going to Angel Edwards (Philadelphia) and Brett Robinson (Philadelphia). We’re grateful to be able to offer a parent residency funded by Sustainable Arts Foundation to Becky Wright (Philadelphia).
Subsidized residencies have been awarded to Jonathan Edmondson (NJ/Philadelphia), Jenn Gillett (NYC), Barbie Diewald (Western MA), Jack Isaac Pryor (Philadelphia), Lindsay Browning (Virginia), Chelsea Murphy (Philadelphia), Simon Montalvo (Boston), and Emerie Snyder (NYC).

MacArthur award winner Walter Kitundu (Chicago) will be in residence with us in August for his site specific performance of Rekodi Maji. We will be adding more special events to our programming with farm dinners, installations and music. Check back for more details soon!

In addition to being hosts and presenters, Subcircle is celebrating its 25th anniversary as a Company and 5th anniversary as a Residency on August 25th at our annual Barnraiser. More info on that soon!

Announcing our 2023 Residency Season

Subcircle is thrilled to announce residencies for our 2023 season! This year we are able to give 7 fully funded residencies to artists, plus 7 subsidized residencies for our busiest season to date. We’re grateful to be able to offer parent residencies funded by Sustainable Arts Foundation which we’ve awarded to Diver VanAvery (Minneapolis) and Esther Baker Tarpaga (Philadelphia). Ten day residencies have been awarded to: Makoto Hirano (Philadelphia), MK Tuonamen (Philadelphia) and Marion Storm (France) and Londs Reuter (NC). Our two Pew Fellow residencies are going to Jaamil Kosoko (NY/Philadelphia) and Leah Stein (Philadelphia/Vermont).
Subsidized residencies have been awarded to Aura Fishbeck/Christy Funsch (San Francisco), Amy Linsenmayer (Boston), Catherine Siller (Boston), Jennifer Childs (Philadelphia), Samantha Rise and Emily Bate (Philadelphia), Jenna Riegel and sha harrell (Western Massachusetts) and Amanda Morton (NYC).

MacArthur award winner Walter Kitundu (Chicago) will be in residence with us this year over the course of two visits leading up to a performance/installation in July; as well as Berlin based artists Heidi Weiss and Jennifer Mann. Finally we are thrilled to say we are on our way to presenting the Oakland based vertical dance company, BANDALOOP in August at Biddeford’s Fringe Festival.

In addition to being hosts and presenters, Subcircle is performing a new work on the grounds of The Ogunquit Music of American Art.  More info on that soon!

Subcircle's Annual Barnraiser On August 28th At Magnus On Water

Please join us for Subcircle's 2022 Barnraiser on Sunday, August 28th at 7pm. This year we are thrilled to be bringing the incredible drag sensation Martha Graham Cracker to the patio of Magnus on Water. The event will include a performance by Martha accompanied by the multi-talented Alex Bechtel, site specific dance performance by Subcircle, film screening, special cocktails, wine, beer, and light fare.

Subcircle Performs July 17, 2022 At The Temple In Ocean Park

Subcircle will perform a new site-specific work at The Temple in Ocean Park on Sunday, July 17th at 7pm. The evening will include performers: Niki Cousineau, Jacqui DeFranca, Evan Hart Marsh, Christy Lee, Scott McPheeters and Liz Mulkey with film by Jorge Cousineau.

2022 Residencies Announced

We are excited to announce our 2022 season with a total of twelve residencies. This year we are thrilled to offer six free or fully sponsored residencies, five partially subsidized residencies and one free commuter residency to a local artist. Our Subcircle free residencies are going to: Shavon Norris, John Jarboe and Amalia Colon-Nava (previously scheduled for 2021). Fully sponsored residencies are of two variety – the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage is sponsoring two past Pew Fellows for a 10-day residency each. This year’s recipients are Annie Wilson and Alex Torra; and a two-week residency for DNA Works from Ft Worth, Texas is being subsidized by our Biddeford community partner, Engine.Five artists are joining us for partially subsidized weeklong residencies: singer/songwriter Margot Bassett-Silver (Minneapolis), Bethany Formica (Swarthmore, PA) Ben Grinberg (Philadelphia), Emie Hughes (Media,PA), Nichole Canuso (Philadelphia).The Commuter Resident will be Janoah Bailin based on Peaks Island, ME.  Janoah will be in residency during the last week of May. We hope to extend our commuter residency to other artists this season. Details to be announced.
